Style to suit the features of your face…

In our last blog we discussed how a change of style can often be one of the biggest dilemmas for our clients and they turn to us and ask “What style do you think would suit me?”.

So we offered some insight on our thinking when we consultant with our clients as to what would suit them best and that one of the main criteria was the shape of the face. So in this blog we are following on from that with our second consideration, which is your facial features.

  • In order to enhance or take away from certain facial features the rules are:
  • To counter act a square jaw the use of curved lines at the jaw line is required, this will give more overall shape to the face.
  • A long jaw should have fullness and length to make the jaw look in proportion.
  • A round jaw benefits from straight lines and this will give the face more structure.
  • If a chin recedes then hair should be directed forward towards it, giving the appearance of more shape.
  • A small chin will benefit from hair being up out of the way, thus bringing out the shape of this area of the face.
  • A large chin will benefit from either longer hair past the chin or short hair well above the chin line, this will bring less focus on this area of the face.
  • A long narrow neck can look good with a full shoulder length style, this will the features together.
  • A short neck looks better when the hair is cut shorter into the nape area, this will elongate the appearance of the neck area.
  • A wide neck can be compensated for by using an arched hairline which is shorter in the nape area, but straight or square lines should be avoided.

At ‘A Salon Called Fish’ we will take every care to ensure that the style you get it the style you want, but we will also make sure it is one that suits you. So if you want to transform your hair, please book in for a consultation and we’ll be happy to help point you in the right direction.
